Normandy CC won the toss and elected to bat first and, after the loss of an early wicket, looked set to post a decent score with their captain, Nathan Sowter, making an impressive 52.

However, apart from Sowter’s second-wicket partnership with Chris Jones, Normandy were unable to capitalise and were dismissed for only 132.

Wokingham’s reply got off to a disappointing start with the loss of three early wickets.

However, Craig Beales (71no) and new 1st XI skipper Stuart Hayter put on a 100 run partnership to see the home side to a seven-wicket victory.

Wokingham are set for another weekend of friendly matches ahead when they welcome Cove CC.

There will be four games in all which will give the Wokingham players more valuable pitch time before their Thames Valley League season begins on Saturday, May 9.

Wokingham president Martin Wilson said: “There is a sense of excitement building at the club following the earlier warm-up victory against Bagshot and a good pre-season training regime, that Stuart Hayter will be able to lead the club to once again be competitive for the Thames Valley Cricket League Division One championship.” Wokingham were involved in a four-way promotion tussle last season but they lacked consistency and had to settle for third place behind Datchet and champions Kew.

The 2015 season promises to be another hard-fought battle in a division which contains newcomers Stoke Green and fellow promoted side Cookham Dean, while Falkland and Chesham complete the division after a spell in the Home Counties Premier League.

Wokingham run five adult Saturday teams in all and boast a thriving ladies’ and junior section based at their plush Sadlers End ground.

Spectators are welcome and the clubhouse bar will be screening Ashes matches between England and Australia throughout the summer.
