A QUARTET of Pinewood’s tumblers are celebrating after being selected to represent Great Britain at the World Championships next month.

Lucie Colebeck and Yasmin Taite performed two faultless runs to ensure their place on the senior team while Tilly Nash and Dominic Mensah secured their spot in the age group competition after impressing in trials at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

In addition, Pinewood coach Vladimir Podobin was selected as the GB senior team coach for the event in Bulgaria.

It has been a remarkable few weeks for Pinewood’s top two tumblers Colebeck and Taite, who have both excelled on the world stage in the run-up to the championships.

At 17 years old, Colebeck was the youngest competitior at the Canada Cup last month but that didn’t stop her from winning gold in her first senior international event.

The Binfield tumbler led the field on the first day and comfortably qualified for the finals.

Despite being last to go in the final, that did not faze Colebeck and she performed a superb double straight transition to a beautiful double straight ending to secure the title - a fantastic achievement and excellent preparation for the Worlds.

More recently, Colebeck and Taite represented GB in the World Cup in Denmark, where they produced more outstanding results.

Up against a strong field that included the current senior world champion from China, Colebeck was only 0.9 points behind in the qualifying round.

Despite an unexpected fall on her first run, Taite also qualified for the final in eighth place.

Taite performed two beautiful runs in the final to finish sixth overall and Colebeck executed a high scoring, difficult run to perfection to land the silver medal. Meanwhile, Pinewood Gymnastics Club dominated the International Team Gym Tournament at Bracknell Leisure Centre recently with an array of gold medals.

Seven of the eight teams from the club took top honours with another runners-up spot completing an excellent set of results.

The four Pinewood teams displayed outstanding aerial skills to bring home three golds and one silver in the team gym event.

The international micro event provided even better results with all four teams, both girls and boys, nailing their routines to win a clean sweep of gold medals.
