JON Bennett's injury time equaliser helped Ascot United to a pulsating 2-2 draw with Newport Isle of Wight in the FA Vase fifth round.

The Yellamen took Newport to extra time thanks to a 95th minute equaliser from substitute Bennett.

The scores remained locked after 30 extra minutes meaning the tie will have to be replayed at the Racecourse ground on Tuesday night.

It was an incredible turnaround from the Yellamen who played most of the game with 10 men as player/manager Jeff Lamb was sent off in the first half.

Ascot fell behind twice but came back each time, culminating in a dramatic equaliser from Bennett, who slid in at the back post in the 95th minute.

Jonny Holmes headed home the opener for Newport after 17 minutes and despite the Yellamen going down to 10 men, they were back on level terms on the stroke of half time.

Excellent work from Dave Hoar set up the equaliser for Ben Knight to turn home after a goalmouth scramble.

Newport regained the lead four minutes after the break though with another headed goal, this time from Iain Seabrook.

The visitors should have put the game to bed but they spurned a glorious chance midway through.

The Yellamen seemed to grow in stature as the half grew on and they continued to push in search of an equaliser and were duly rewarded deep into stoppage time.

Jack Smillie provided the cross for the mercurial Bennett to slide home, sparking jubilant scenes from players and back room staff.

It was more of the same in extra time with Ascot clearly on top throughout the added period despite playing with a man down.

The teams will lock horns again on Tuesday night.
