ASCOT United continued their excellent recent form with an entertaining 6-3 win over Newbury on Tuesday night.

The win moves the Yellamen level on points with Wokingham & Emmbrook in the Hellenic Premier Division, following Saturday's excellent 4-1 win over Reading Town.

They have now scored 10 goals in two games and will go into their much anticipated FA Vase match at Borrowash on Saturday full of confidence.

On a very wet and windy night at the Racecourse ground, the Yellamen hit Newbury for six but it could have been more, with the woodwork denying them on three occasions.

However, the Yellamen did well to even get the game on, with the pitch undergoing two pitch inspections in the hours leading to kick-off.

On 18 minutes, a slick move involving Rob Saunders, Jon Bennett and Dave Hoar saw Hoar hit a sweet drive into the net to set the team on their way.

Four minutes later and it was 2-0 as Bennett's pass released Lee Boon to fire into the net, giving the keeper no chance.

Hoar then hit a post as another sweeping move opened up the Newbury defence.

Play was halted for a long period as an injury to Newbury's Curtis Angel meant the player had to be stretchered off the pitch.

Just before half-time Saunders netted a third when his shot from the edge of the box flew in.

In the first half of added on time Josh Warren scored a fourth after another through pass from Bennett.

But the scoring did not finish there as Newbury got a goal back after breaching the Ascot defence on one of the few occasion of the half.

Ascot went 5-1 up minutes into the second half when Bennett was scythed down in the box. He then took the resulting penalty and fired in.

Newbury then got a second goal when a free kick was allowed to travel into the box and straight in the net.

The visitors went down to 10 men after a second yellow against their centre half and shortly after, a fast break down the left flank by Boon saw his cross turned in by Bennett for 6-2.

This was followed by Bennett hitting the crossbar on two occasions and Saunders firing over from the six yard box.

A good team goal from Newbury shortly before the end made the final score 6-3.
