BINFIELD manager Mark Tallentire insists his side will be an attacking force come Saturday's third round FA Vase clash with Tunbridge Wells (3pm ko).

The Moles' eight-game winning streak was halted by Ascot United in a rare goalless draw at Hill Farm Lane on Monday night with both sides warming up for the Vase at the weekend.

In a match with little goalmouth action, the main incident occurred after 12 minutes when Ascot's Josh Warren collided into Joel Havermans on the halfway line after losing control of the ball.

He was stretchered off but was not taken to hospital, suffering from bruising around his mouth and maybe in need of a couple of stitches.

Moments after the restart, Jemel Johnson turned his ankle and had to be replaced by Jos Millar, although Johnson is expected to be fit for Saturday's match.

There were few chances for either side with Binfield lacking cutting edge up front in the absence of Carl Davies.

However, Tallentire remains confident they can put that right on Saturday. "I'd like us to be more creative going forward and move the ball at a quicker tempo when we are in forward positions.

"Our all-round demeanour needs to be a bit sharper and we'll get that this week.

"That game would have done us the world of good and with training on Thursday, it'll set us up nicely for Saturday.

"I'm sure we'll improve going forward." Ascot, missing Jon Bennett up front with a hamstring injury, created the better chances in the second half. Ben Knight's pace was a constant threat and he thought he had scored when he broke free, rounded Dan Weait and rolled the ball in from an acute angle, only to be brought back by a late offside flag. He also had a couple more chances but couldn't get his shots away.

Just before the hour mark, captain Gary Callaway had to be alert to get a foot on to Rob Saunders' goalbound shot with Weait desperately scrambling back to collect the ball.

As time ticked down, the two sides traded long-range shots straight at the keepers, with Callaway blasting in a left-foot volley for Binfield and moments later Saunders letting fly from 25 yards.

Yellamen assistant manager Paul McGrotty said he was 'disappointed' with the draw.

"I thought we were the better side," he said.

"In the second half we started superbly and should have been two or three nil up, I don't know what the goal was cancelled out for.

"And then with 20 minutes to go we lost our way a little bit and they came into it but never really threatened us." McGrotty, who had a baby daughter last week, added: "Knight was superb, especially in the second half. He was unplayable, their defence were scared of him and kept stepping off him." Tallentire will now turn his attentions to the FA Vase game against Kent side Tunbridge Wells.

He has spoken to the Wantage Town manager, who lost to Tunbridge in the previous round, about the opposition.

"You don't play teams in the last 64 of the Vase that are going to be easy," he said. "It's going to be a tough game but we have to make sure we apply ourselves properly and not give anything away." He added: "I want to better what we did last year and try and get to the last 32 and then get ourselves into another round or so." l BINFIELD FC are hoping for a bumper crowd on Saturday (3pm ko) with admission reduced to 1 for kids.
