SUNNINGDALE & Wentworth striker Sam Walters is recovering after breaking his leg in Sunday's Berks & Bucks Cup third round clash at Bulmershe FC.
After some recent poor results, Sunningdale & Wentworth looked to have got their season back on track as they lead 4-2.
But the game had to be abandoned after 81 minutes when Walters suffered a badly broken right leg in an accidental collision with the Bulmershe goalkeeper.
Walters was treated on the pitch by paramedics for almost two hours before being taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he underwent an operation that night.
S&W's manager Nick Carpenter stressed there was no blame on the part of the Bulmershe keeper.
"It was just an unfortunate accident where two committed players collided, but the incident left both sets of players absolutely devastated," he said.
Everyone at Bulmershe wishes Walters a speedy recovery and the game will be replayed this Sunday.
