Leader: Carrying a torch for Royals
EVEN brilliant Brian McDermott appeared a little shell-shocked after his team's breathtaking performance in the Welsh capital on Tuesday night; and he certainly wasn't alone.
If a week's a long time in politics then it's an absolute age in football and this past one must have been agony for the moaners who last autumn seemed to spend their waking hours aiming bile-filled diatribes at the Royals players, management and owner Sir John Madejski. Mind you they'll probably be at it again next week, complaining that the queues for Wembley tickets are exploiting their 'loyalty'!
But let nothing spoil a week enhanced by the exciting news that the Olympic torch will be spending a night in Reading in the run-up to the 2012 Games.
With the Queen visiting Ireland, Shane Long scoring twice and McDermott boasting strong Hibernian roots himself, some might be hailing the luck of the Irish. But luck's no use without dedication, hard work and teamwork.
Congratulations, and well done our Royals!
