RARELY can so many have crossed their fingers, united in the hope that the weather forecasters have got it wrong.

Predictions of light rain and even thunderstorms, particularly following the non-stop sunshine of Easter weekend, would be particularly cruel if they were to come true tomorrow for the thousands of people planning street parties, private celebrations or intending to joining the mass exodus to London for a day in the open air.

With the clouds of economic gloom, as well as violence in the Middle East, we need and deserve a bit of cheering up.

Never mind the mean spirited merchants of doom who would deny the population some pomp and circumstance, fun and laughter, surely there's little enough to shout about at the moment.

Here's to a day of true national celebration and a life of sunshine for Prince William and his bride, our Kate from Chapel Row.
