In total four addresses in Wokingham, two of them nail bars were raided as police carried out 17 warrants in Berkshire London and Yorkshire.

The people arrested range from 19 to 40 years old. Some six alleged victims have been rescued from the addresses. Baloo nail, in the arcade was one of the parlours raided.

A 32-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman both from Wokingham were arrested. They have been released on bail until June 23.

Other arrests include a 20-year-old man, 33-year-old woman and 31-year-old man all from Reading and bailed until June 23.

A 29-year-old woman and 40-year-old man both from London have been bailed until the same date.

A 33-year-old woman from West Berkshire and 19-year-old man of no fixed abode were also bailed until June 23.

The final arrest was a 24-year-old woman from Reading who was bailed until March 20.

Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Mears said: “Thames Valley Police is committed to tackling human trafficking and will work with communities to stop such crimes.

“It is a criminal offence to traffic people into the UK. It is an offence to force people, by threats or coercion, to work unpaid or to pay off a debt. It is an offence to make people carry out acts against their will.

“The key aim of this operation is to protect vulnerable people. The victims in this investigation have been taken to rest centres where they are being supported by Thames Valley Police, the British Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

“Extra police community support officers will be out on patrol today speaking to residents and businesses to inform them of today’s operation and provide reassurance.”
