A fortunate break from the rain, snow and ice cold weather gave competitors a glorious day to take to the roads and push themselves the extra mile.

First over the line was Paul Martelletti from east London who was over the moon at running his fastest ever time of 1:04:18 on the Wokingham course on Sunday.

The 24-year-old said: “I am so happy to have got a personal best and to win – you cannot ask for much more. The course was brilliant, I have done it a few times before so I know the little ups and downs which really helps because when you are coming back you know what to expect.” Among the success stories of the day was another personal best from the fastest female runner Hayley Munn who almost didn’t turn up due to illness earlier in the week.

Miss Munn said: “I haven’t been feeling good this week so I was really surprised to be the fastest woman.” Beating her own record with a time of 1:15:43 the 24-year-old’s race was made all the more special by her father, who she now coaches, crossing the finish line with his own personal best as well.

The men’s and women’s course records both remain unbeaten but as the tired runners made it to the end of the 13.1 mile course they were welcomed by friends and family in Cantley Park.
