Four-hundred children from 26 schools performed a range of carols. The Maestros Corelli Orchestra provided musical accompaniment and performed for the capacity audience.
Emma Clarke, head teacher of Farley Hill Primary, said: “We sent 12 children to the concert with two teachers and they had a fantastic time. I went to watch and I was very impressed by their singing.
“Their favourite songs were Love Shone Down and Philippine Carol. They also really enjoyed seeing the Maestros perform.” Vicky McCalron, Year Two teacher at St Sebastians CofE Primary in Wokingham, said: “We had nine children there, from Years Three to Six, and they had an excellent time. We are quite a small school, so it was good for them to sing to a bigger audience.
“It was good to see them singing with an orchestra too. I hadn’t been before but it was absolutely wonderful.” Wokingham Borough Mayor UllaKarin Clark said: “The annual primary schools’ carol concert is a highlight of the civic calendar. It is one of the biggest events of the year and one that, as mayor, I always very much look forward to.
“It is also a time to celebrate the musical talents of Wokingham borough’s young people. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, including the teachers who have spent a great deal of time preparing the children for this concert, James Baker, and the young musicians of the Berkshire Maestros Orchestra.
“Finally, a special thank you goes to the children and their parents who, each year, support this event so enthusiastically.”
