Brandon Taylor, 15, had the judges, including former presenter of CBBC’s Newsround Sonali Shah, in stitches with his comedy performance. Sonali said: “I have been impressed with the pupils here at High Close from the moment I walked through the door.

“It has been wonderful to see them showcase their talents and gain confidence through the process – they have all been very entertaining!” Other acts from pupils included a girl group, school band, solo singers, cup stacking, a rapper and a magic act.

High Close School is run by Barnardo’s and is a residential school for boys and girls with special educational needs.

Zoe Lattimer, school principal, said: “This year’s talent contest has been a lot of fun and we were delighted to welcome Sonali here to judge with us.

“I know how hard the children have worked on this year’s show, and the performances really showed that was the case.”
