Piece Makers is a large patchwork quilt made up of different pieces of military blankets that is the culmination of two years research by contemporary artist Susan Stockwell.

The work is being displayed as part of the Piece Maker’s exhibition which was launched at the museum, in Isaac Newton Road, Arborfield, on Tuesday last week after a run at the National Army Museum in London.

Susan worked with veterans during a series of artistic workshops to create the piece and accompanying information boards.

Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Museum curator Jennifer Allison said the piece has been very well received with positive feedback from guests.

She added: “For us it is having that link with the modern soldiers and something that really, really affects soldiers. So many of them go abroad and the rehabilitation is not just physical, it is mental anguish that they have to live with.

“The exhibition is moving away from the idea that a museum is only for history but showing that we are here to represent the modern corps and the British Army.” The exhibition runs until Thursday, November 20.
