The traditional performance of the Shakespearean comedy kept the children 'enthralled’ throughout the afternoon and around 250 people turned out up to enjoy a picnic and the performance in the park.

Enchanted Players Theatre Company put on the show on Sunday, the last stop on their 15-date tour of Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

Producer Victoria Grace-Ruskin said the show went out 'with a bang’.

“It went amazingly well and we had such a great turn -out,” she said.

“It was the first time we’d performed in Wokingham and everyone was so happy with it, we got so many compliments for the show as people left.” The play was performed in traditional Athenian costume and with Shakespeare’s original script.

Ms Grace-Ruskin said all of the children still understood the story and had fun with the help of big story-books. The show went out on a high. It was a real family event and all the children loved it, especially when the fairies came out.

“It’s such a big, magical production that the children stay sitting down for the whole thing.” Organised by Wokingham Town Council, the performance in the park began at 4pm and allowed people to bring food and drink to enjoy while they watched.
