WOKINGHAM Borough Council is set to snap up a farm with a view to building a major outdoor sports hub.

The council is set to buy Grays Farm in Heathlands Road, Wokingham, in order to use the 64-acre site for sports pitches as part of the major development due to take place to the South of Wokingham in the coming years.

The farm is adjacent to land that is earmarked for residential development as part of the South Wokingham Strategic Development Location and the developers would be funding the purchase and development of sports facilities.

The deal is due to be ratified by the borough council’s decision making executive on July 31.

The current owners of the farm would remain in place until September 2017 and will be run by the current owners until that point.
