A SCHOOL is celebrating a positive Ofsted report, but eyes are firmly fixed on an 'outstanding’ mark next time round.

St Sebastian’s CofE Primary School, in Nine Mile Ride, Wokingham, was graded 'good’ by Ofsted.

The grading is one up from a 'satisfactory’ rank –now called 'requires im-provement’ – which was given to the school by Ofsted at its previous inspection in September 2012.

The achievement of pupils, the quality of teaching, the behaviour and safety of pupils and the school’s leadership and management are all now ranked as good.

St Sebastian’s head-teacher Colin Rouse said: “The focus over the past two years has been on the improvements Ofsted suggested and it is great news that this focus has been recognised. The parents are overjoyed as are all of the staff and governors.

“There is not a lot to do to get to outstanding and we are already starting to work on some of the issues identified by Ofsted to get us there.” The report praised the progress made by pupils at the school which makes them “well prepared for secondary education when they leave” and the quality of the progress made by disabled pupils and those with special educational needs.

To reach an outstanding grade, inspectors called for planned improvements to raise safety standards to be implemented quickly, better communication with parents over the long-term vision of the school and to provide feedback to teachers on how to ensure there is constantly challenging work for pupils.

Mr Rouse added: “I’ve been here 17 years now and there is still a lot of work to do; we’re not finished yet!” The school is hosting a garden party on Monday, July 21, for staff, pupils, parents and governors to celebrate the Ofsted report.
