A CELEBRITY magician was on hand to add a touch of sparkle to the unveiling of a new room for charity.

Paul Daniels opens the new sensory room at the Dingley Family Centre in Wokingham. The charity helps children with special needs.

Paul Daniels officially opened a new sensory room for Dingley Family and Specialist Early Years Centres.

Based at All Saints Primary School, Norreys Avenue, the charity helps children with additional needs and disabilities, and welcomed the guests on Tuesday last week.

Liz McDaniel, group development officer for Dingley, said: “Paul Daniels enjoyed learning a lot more about our work when he visited to open Wokingham’s new sensory room. He thought the equipment, which has been sponsored by The Lord’s Taverners, was ‘magical’.

“We are really grateful to The Lord’s Taverners for their support with transforming a rather boring space into somewhere that the children can now really enjoy and benefit from playing in. All our children are enjoying their time in this new room.

“This equipment is particularly helping our children on the autistic spectrum as having the lights turned down and switching on a bubble tube helps them to focus on one interesting effect instead of being bombarded by all the light, sound and toys in the playroom.”

Funding for the room – which includes a bubble tube on a plinth, a fibre optic star carpet, and a mirror ball – came from The Lord’s Taverners, a youth cricket and sports charity.

Also present at the opening was Adrienne Jacobs, regional chairman of the Lady Taverners, who said: “We are delighted to be associated with Dingley and to have met so many wonderful children.

“The sensory room is now a key feature within the centre and the children will benefit from it for many years to come. The Lady Taverners are thrilled to have been involved with this project.”
