Five members of staff from firm Clifton Ingram LLP, which is based in Broad Street, Wokingham, will be sleeping rough to raise money for the charity Launchpad.
Named the ‘Dream Team’, Joel Malloy, Kate Bailey, Jonathan Davis, Lewis Djemal, Jenny Stevens, and Melissa Baxter will be sleeping in cardboard boxes in the grounds of Queen Anne’s School, Caversham, on Friday, August 29.
Team organiser Melissa Baxter said: “One night sleeping rough pales into insignificance when you consider the difficulties faced by some vulnerable people in and round Reading, so we hope to raise as much money as we can for such a good cause.”
The national campaign – now in its 35th year – will give the group an insight into what it is like to sleep rough, and all funds raised will go towards the charity, which helps homeless people. Mr Davis said: “We are volunteering to give up our beds and ‘rough it’ for a night, not to find out what it is like to be homeless, although we’ll get a tiny glimpse, but to raise funds for and awareness of the homeless and vulnerable in our area. People from all walks of life can suddenly find themselves out on the streets for so many reasons. Our fundraising target is £600 for Launchpad, but obviously we’d hope to exceed that for this good cause.”
