Kicking off with an International Food and Crafts Market on Sunday May 11, Super Sunday brought together skills and cuisines from around the world, as well as live entertainment in the form of a Chinese lion, a popdance and a flash mob, before finishing with a burlesque troupe.

Each market is to have its own theme. Sports and Leisure is the focus for the next one on Sunday, June 22. Free entertainment including Zumba and tribute acts is planned.

There will also be a free climbing wall, yoga, massage, cookery books, face painting, football and more.

Wendy Scotchmer, from Wokingham Town Team, who organise the Super Sundays, said: “This is the second year we’ve done it so we wanted to introduce themes, we want to showcase as much talent and variety from across Wokingham, and we coincided the sports market with the Wokingham bikeathon. It’s about working together with different groups, making Wokingham as vibrant as possible.” A Health and Beauty Market will take place on Sunday, July 6 – a Children and Family Market on Sunday, July 20 – a Home-made Crafts Market on Sunday, September 14 before a Christmas Market rounds things off on Sunday, December 7.

The first Sunny Saturday of the year, May 3, saw an interactive story telling for children in the morning by Mark Jones. This was followed by Bruce Neil, entertaining crowds with his folk-style storytelling pieces.

Cllr Gwynneth Hewetson said: “We’re hoping this year is going to be a bigger and better everything, we want to have people and stalls wall to wall.

“Hopefully it adds to the atmosphere in the town centre, especially if its a nice day.

“It’s lovely having music and entertainment, and the town council is in the right position to facilitate these things.” Organised by the Town Council, Sunny Saturdays will be held every week – apart from the International Street Concert on Saturday May 31 – until September.

Two toe-tapping bands will play this Saturday, with a brass band and the finalists of the Open Mic competition rounding up the May performances on May 24.
