A NEW free school due to open in September hosted a work party adding extra features to its grounds.

Victoria Salmons and daughter Lizzie help out at the work party at The Evendons.

The Evendons School, in Finchampstead Road, Wokingham, welcomed about 100 people to help with mostly outdoor work. Youngsters who will be attending the school – and their parents – pitched in with a range of tasks.

Headteacher Patrick Pritchett said: “We had parents and neighbours, and even some new teachers who we’ve employed came down.

“We worked on the grounds and outside, doing lots of gardening jobs. We created a foothpath with woodchip through our woodlands, and created a log seating area which we can use for an outside classroom.

“It’s a real community school, we want the parents to get involved.”

The work day, which took place on April 12, was the first one the school has held, and Mr Pritchett confirmed

they would be holding another one a month ahead of their grand opening.
