FIREFIGHTERS tackled a very different challenge with water as they set about raising money for charity on Saturday.

From left, firefighters Ian Bellis, Jason Schofield, Chris Davidson, Gary Foster, Dave Bubba, Rudey Gallagher and Danny Wheeler wash cars at Wokingham Fire Station.

Crews from the fire stations in Wokingham and Earley embarked on a six-hour car wash to raise money for two charities.

The firefighters washed about 100 cars big and small to raise £630, shared between The Fire Fighters Charity, which helps firefighters and their families, and Oxfam.

The minimum donation was £5 per car.

Firefighter Ian Bellis, from Wokingham Blue Watch, said: “The Fire Fighters Charity helps support serving and retired firefighters and their families across the country who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the communities they serve, so it is always very close to our hearts.”
