A public exhibition of a council’s updated plans to demolish homes in Eustace Crescent, Wokingham, and build new housing was held at The Cornerstone in Norreys Avenue last Tuesday.
Natalie Craig, 28, from Eustace Crescent, a mother of two, said: “I went to the exhibition and they were helpful and friendly.
“I think it will definitely improve the area. It will look better. It’s a very good thing that they listened to what residents want and modified plans.
“We hope it will improve the area for the home owners, we’re excited because it could raise the value of our house and we could get a better price if we sold.” Following a consultation last year, Wokingham Borough Council reduced the number of planned homes by four and increased the parking spaces to 96. There will now be 20 flats and 48 houses, along a tree-lined avenue, as well as gardens for ground-floor properties.
Mother of two Zahiyer Sheriff, 36, from Child Close, said: “I knew about the stigma attached to the estate, I’ve lived here eight years, it will be good for the area and it will improve it.” A planning application is expected to be submitted in February.
Building work is expected to last about 18 months and could begin as early as this year.
