The show closed on Saturday, and Annet Pullen, speaking on behalf of the group, said it had been "superb."

She said: "It was fantastic and I understand there were about 12 pictures sold during Saturday."

Jewellery, pictures, pottery and more was on show during the two-week display, with hundreds of people looking round at St. Paul's Parish Rooms, in Reading Road, Wokingham.

Mrs Pullen said the unique aspect of the show was the fact people can buy the work straight away.

She said: "The pottery and pictures were really great and the person who won best in show (Liz Seward) was very good.

"There were some lovely pictures there and you never know how it will go and every day is different. People can take things they buy with them straight away which is something different.

"Normally you have to wait till the end and then collect but we have a moving exhibition all the time.

"The first week wasn't too great (in terms of sales), but the second week was a lot better and in the end we did better than last year."

About 100 artists showed of their work during the exhbition, although the group has more than 200 members.

Mrs Pullen added: "It's a very nice society and we had lots of guests coming through the doors.

"It was brilliant from the opening night which I believe was excellent. It's always the high point of the year and it's always a shame when you have to take it down."

Mrs Pullen - who was away during the opening week - was stunned to find out she had been awarded the President's Awards for Services to the Society.

She said: "I was so surprised - I came in after the first week to open up on Monday because it was my duty and somebody said congratulations and I didn't know.

"People were talking to me and they then said 'haven't you read the paper' and they told me I'd won. It's a lot of work every month but I was really pleased."
