AN AUCTION to celebrate a 50th birthday raised more than 900 for charity.
Joel Park Residents' Association held the event to celebrate reaching its half century.
Steve Sansom, chairman of the association, praised the work of landlord Chris West who acted as auctioneer for the event at the Dog n Duck pub, in Matthewsgreen Road, Wokingham.
Mr Sansom said: "He was a true pro. His banter and bartering with the crowd certainly made the occasion." There were more than 35 lots on offer at the event on Saturday, June 22, including tickets to Highclere Castle, bottles of wine, rounds of golf, memberships of local health clubs and high tea at Cantley Hotel.
Mr Sansom said the amount raised for the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service exceeded the committee's expectations. The group also held a garden party to mark its golden anniversary last month.
