RESIDENTS can take part in a new discussion group to learn more about the future of Wokingham.

The Wokingham Town Centre Community Forum will be launched on Tuesday, June 25, and will allow people to find out more about the town's regeneration and issues affecting the whole borough.

The planning applications for the remaining phases of the regeneration scheme are due to be submitted in the next few months, while other exciting projects for the town's future include the creation of a new Wokingham brand for promoting and marketing the town.

Cllr Alistair Corrie, executive member for regeneration at Wokingham Borough Council, said: "With all the different things going on we feel it's important we keep local residents updated on what's going on in the town.

"We want to make sure they have the opportunity to meet those involved in these important projects, ask questions, and also give them the chance to get more involved in some of the things which are happening locally.

"Wokingham has an incredibly strong community made up of those who live, work and visit the town.

"We don't see this forum as being limited to council projects but also as an opportunity for other Wokingham groups to come forward and share what is being achieved locally." Work on the regeneration of the town centre is due to start next month with the refurbishment works at the Market Place and Rose Street corner, and work is under way on the station link road.

The group's first meeting will take place in the Council Chamber at the Civic Offices, Shute End, Wokingham between 7pm and 8.45pm.

The forum is open to all and spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis on the night.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the new forum, including local groups interested in presenting at a future meetings, should contact regeneration data manager Melanie Allen by emailing melanie.allen@wokingham.gov.uk or calling 0118 974 6735.
