A MOTORIST was "very lucky" to have crawled away from his vehicle after it smashed into a tree in Lodge Road, Wokingham, last night (Thursday).
Firefighters from Wokingham fire station were called to the scene after a passing policeman alerted them of the fire at about 11.40pm.
A middle aged man had escaped from the "top of the range" Jaguar, which had burst into flames following the collision.
The fire crew spent almost two hours at the scene, and the man was taken away in an ambulance.
Firefighter Brett Humphreys said: "The guy was very lucky he got out. If he wasn't in a modern car he wouldn't have survived.
"The police and paramedics did a wonderful job. It was a good effort on everyone's part."
