THREE charities were presented with cheques totalling more than �16,000 as a golf club changed captains.

David Bosomworth and Sue Hampson, the 2012 captains at Bearwood Lakes, in Sindlesham, raised money throughout the year.

Sue presented a cheque for �5,300 to Hounds for Heroes, who provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK Armed forces and Civilian Emergency services.

She gave the same amount to The Royal Berkshire Hospital for a specialist Linac Accelerator that will serve the hospital's Cancer Treatment Centre. David presented a cheque for �6,000 to The Eden Unit at Wexham Park Hospital, a ward that specialises in the treatment of haematology based cancers such as hodgkin's lymphoma. The money was distributed by the Libby's Challenge Charity Committee which has raised more than �280,000 to date since the charity was launched with the support of Bearwood Lakes Members.

In 2013, lady captain Susan Veary will continue to support Hounds for Heroes. Men's Captain Stephen Vincent has chosen to support Berkshire charity the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice.
