DRIVERS are warned to expect further traffic disruption as the 2m upgrade of Wokingham's water system continues.

A drop-in session for residents to learn more about the road closures and to give feedback on the work so far will take place on Monday, at the borough council offices in Shute End between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.

There will be a one-way system in Broad Street for five weeks, starting on February 11.

Shute End will be closed for four weeks from March 18.

James Smith, delivery manager for South East Water, said: "We are keen to speak to local residents and businesses so that we can work with them to try and reduce the impact of our construction on the town.

"So far the scheme has been going extremely well and we have been working hard to minimise disruption. However, we are aware that as work starts in Broad Street next month and then Shute End in March there will be more impact on the area." During the Broad Street work, drivers travelling Reading-bound should follow a diversion via Denmark Street, Wellington Road and Station Road.

To access Rose Street coming from Reading, car users will be diverted along Rectory Road, Wiltshire Road, Peach Street and Cross Street.

The diversion routes will be clearly signed throughout the work and businesses in the town will remain open as usual.

South East Water's scheme to bury 7.1km of new water mains underground is part of the company's major five year investment programme to ensure it continues to provide top quality drinking water to the area while minimising the chances of burst pipes.

The diversion route for Shute End will be provided nearer the time.
