MASKED thieves carrying crowbars and a sledgehammer destroyed a glass door and stole an amplifier during an early morning burglary.

Shortly before 2.15am on Friday, a gang of thugs arrived at Carphone Warehouse in Market Place, Wokingham.

They broke their way through a glass door before bursting inside the building and searching around.

The group, described as wearing dark tops, trousers, hoods and face coverings, then stole a speaker amplifier.

A police spokesman said: “Four offenders broke into the Carphone Warehouse mobile phone store in Market Place by smashing glass in a door.

“They left approximately five minutes later in the same direction from which they arrived, where Market Place joins Broad Street.

“All four offenders were wearing dark long sleeved tops, trousers, hoods and face coverings. They were carrying crowbars, a sledgehammer and a large plastic bag.”

Detectives investigating the burglary are yet to make any arrests.

Anyone who saw the armed gang should contact Thames Valley Police on 101.

Police constable Jake Knight, based at Loddon Valley police station, said: "I would like to appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area around the time of the burglary to speak to police.

"If you have any information which could assist the investigation, please come forward."
