A FINCHAMPSTEAD-based bus company has launched an investigation after one of its buses hit a bridge.

Courtney Buses, which is based at Hogwood Lane Industrial Estate, has launched an investigation after one of its double-decker buses, serving as a rail replacement bus for South Western Railway, collided with a bus in Staines on Sunday morning.

The bus was heading from Staines station to Ascot at the time of the crash.

There were just two passengers on the bus at the time, one of which was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

A spokesman for South Western Railway said: "There was an incident with a rail replacement bus on Sunday morning at around 9am.

"The bus was heading from Staines station towards Ascot when it struck a railway bridge.

"There were two passengers on the bus at the time, with one treated at the scene for minor injuries.

"We take the safety of our passengers very seriously and an investigation is underway through our bus supplier First Travel Solutions, which is in contact with the company that supplied the bus."

Surrey Police closed the road until the scene was cleared at around midday.

A spokesman for Courtney Buses said: "One of our double decker vehicles, working under contract on a rail replacement service, was involved in a bridge strike at Staines on Sunday morning just before 9am. One passenger was treated at the scene for a minor injury.

"A full investigation into the incident is ongoing, and we are working with the relevant authorities to establish the cause of the accident."
