THE FOODBANK in the town is calling for the community's support to help those in need this Christmas.

As the festive season approaches, the Wokingham Foodbank will be supporting families facing hunger with emergency food.

'Fuel The Charity' will also be offering support, giving Christmas food, gifts for children and adults.

The Wokingham Foodbank will be providing seasonal extras to people who have been referred to them for emergency food.

Toys and presents for children and little extras for adults will be distributed, and the foodbank is appealing for anyone who can help to donate as early in the month as possible, so volunteers can process and distribute donations effectively.

David Atkinson, chair of Wokingham Foodbank, said: “Every year, the foodbank sees an increase in demand in December, but this year, with benefit changes and falling temperatures, we know we will be very busy.

"We’re extremely lucky that Wokingham people are so generous, especially at this time of year.

"We couldn’t keep our doors open without your help. That’s why as we begin the busy month of December, we’re asking for your help to make sure that no family in Wokingham] goes hungry this Christmas. Thank you.”

In December of last year, the Foodbank provided 85 food parcels to local people in crisis, parcels that provided 147 adults and 164 children with a three-day supply of nutritious food, household and personal essentials, that figure is expected to rise this year.
