A MAN has appeared at court accused of murder. 

Anthony Wheaton, 24, appeared before Reading Magistrates Court this morning (November 27) accused of the murder of Gee Smith, 29. 

Wheaton is accused of killing Mr Smith on Friday November 24 at 11:15pm at 17 Dart Close, where the accused lives. 

The accused was defended by Mr Kevin Hennessey, with Mrs Claire Barkley prosecuting. 

Mr Donald Stuart Skelton referred the case to Reading Crown Court, where Wheaton will appear tomorrow morning (November 28).

Wheaton has been denied bail.

Thames Valley Police officers went to a property on Dart Close in Finchampstead at 11.15pm on Friday November 24 after reports of a stabbing.

An ambulance crew treated a 29 year-old man at the site. 

The man died in the early hours of Saturday morning (November 25).

Yesterday, officers charged Wheaton with one count of murder.

There will be a heightened police presence in the area as a result of the incident as the investigation continues.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "The victim has been named as 29-year-old Gee Smith from Finchampstead.

"Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at a property in Dart Close at around 11.15pm on Friday (24/11).

"They attended along with the ambulance service whose staff treated Gee at the scene. Sadly, he died in the early hours of Saturday morning (25/11)."
