DISABLED young adults will have the chance to live independently after the council approved a planning application for new homes.
Wokingham Housing will construct a purpose-built bungalow to house three young adults with a range of complex needs such as learning disabilities and long-term medical conditions.
An occupational therapist has been involved in the design of the three bedroom property in Gorrick Square, Wokingham to ensure it meets the needs of residents.
Bill Flood, Managing Director of Wokingham Housing said, “This is another new community development where we are serving a long-standing need within Wokingham Borough for bespoke accommodation for a particular client group.
"In this case it is young people with complex needs – enabling them to live independently in a supported environment."
The building and external space will be fully wheelchair accessible with wide corridors and rooms with space to install mobility hoists in between rooms.
The house will also have wheelchair accessible bathrooms and kitchen witch adjustable kitchen units.
The building is being specially designed to respond to the specific needs of the proposed residents but it is flexible enough to be adaptable for other future residents with similar needs.
Wokingham Housing aim to complete the building by mid-2019.
