A SCARED cat was rescued from a roof in Winnersh this afternoon by firefighters and the RSPCA.

The cat, named Shimmer, had managed to get himself onto the roof of the house opposite where he lived, and had worked his way up to the top of the chimney.

Firefighters explained they had tried to coax the cat down from the roof, but because the chimney was too high, they had to request for aerial support to try and get the feline down.

A firefighter from the Wokingham fire station explained that the aerial support would have to come from High Wycombe, and would take too long.

He said: "We couldn't justify having aerial support for the cat unfortunately, but luckily we tried a few other methods and he eventually came down to a lower level of the roof.

"From there we were able to use our ladder to get up and bring him down, at which point he immediately ran back across the road and back to his house.

"The RSPCA were there the whole time and they were happy with what we were doing."
