Caregivers have raised thousands for charity by participating in the Cotswold Challenge Walk.

The group of caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care joined with their friends and took on the 100km challenge over the course of 24 hours, raising over £2,500 in the process.

The team had trained for months on end before partaking in this mammoth task, and did so to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.

The starting point for the walk was Bath, and the group trekked all the way to Cheltenham from 7am on Saturday to Sunday morning between 8am and 11am.

Jacqui Sharod, a senior caregiver said: “I am proud to have taken part in this challenge. As a senior caregiver, I see the devastating effect this disease can have on sufferers and their families.

"The Alzheimer's Society are the leading dementia support and research charity and offer so much to those in need. The society needs donations to carry on their amazing work.

“Many people don’t realise that simple things like making eye contact, using very short sentences and smiling are some of the most effective ways of making people with dementia feel valued and useful.”

Owner of Home Instead Ascot, Maggie Martin, said: “I am so proud of the Home Instead Team for taking on such a tough challenge. They all did so well, walking throughout the night to complete the walk.

“Many of our clients are affected by a dementia so we know what a huge impact it has on people’s lives. The funds we received for this walk is our way of giving something back and supporting a fantastic charity.”
