PHOENIX Avenue will finally rise from the ashes with its first families expected to start moving into the £13m development soon.

A total of 68 new homes at the heart of the Norreys community, on the former Eustace Crescent site, have been built after the tired 1960s block was torn down.

The major project commissioned by Wokingham Borough Council, and part-funded through developer commuted sums, is being delivered by the council’s housing company Wokingham Housing Ltd (WHL) and built by Hill Partnership.

The homes range from one bedroom apartments to four bed houses, each with their own communal or private garden, set within carefully designed landscaping for the whole development.

Some 20 families are due to move in during May, the first of a phased handover of the new homes which it is hoped will be finished by autumn.

Cllr Julian McGhee Sumner, executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “It has been an exciting time, seeing the rundown Eustace Crescent buildings replaced by an eye-catching, modern development that is almost ready for it families to move in.

“These are more than just homes for new families. The Norreys community deserves this quality development and I hope the families who move into the properties enjoy their new homes for many years to come.”
