THOUSANDS of revellers basked in the summer sun to watch Ray Quinn and tribute acts to Coldplay, Adele and the Rat Pack headline this year’s Marvellous Festival in Winnersh.

Recreations of hits by Ed Sheeran, Elvis and Madonna also pulled in crowds during the weekend, which sold out on the first day and held a steady audience throughout Sunday.

The 2016 iteration of Marvellous moved to a new stomping ground in Dinton Pastures, having been a fixture at Wellington Country Park for many years.

But the relocation didn’t quash any chances of the festival’s success, as more than 7,500 people packed into the Winnersh venue across the two days.

Claire Birkett from Reading was lapping up the sunshine with her husband Matthew and young daughter Serenna.

She said: “It has been fantastic, the amount that there is to do for children and the family fun atmosphere.

“The weather has held out which has been great.”

A highlight for the Birketts was the Adele tribute, whom Serenna thought was the real deal.

Meanwhile Lynne Goddard praised the friendly and relaxed ambience at Marvellous.

“Coldplay were really good. We will definitely be back next year,” she added.

Nikki Gadd had recruited a truckload of family and friends to the festival.

She continued: “We have been here all weekend. There were 30 of us yesterday and 16 today.

“Queen were superb, absolutely superb. It has been a really great location too because we managed to walk here from Woodley.”

Businesses from around Berkshire also managed to get a slice of the action.

Kayleigh Wylde, manager of Aldermaston-based Cafe2u.co.uk, said: “Business has been quite good. Saturday was a bit quiet but in the evening it just took off.”

Thomas Burden, who runs the Spanish Wrap Co., felt the weekend had been enjoyable despite the unpredictability of trading.

“People did not know we were here because of where we were located, but word is spreading,” said the Wokingham resident.

According to Elvis impersonator and Marvellous production manager Ady Holloway, the festival crew had been planning on site for ten days.

He commented: “It was a great festival, everyone who worked on it enjoyed it.

“It was a good fun weekend for all the family. I have to say Queen were phenomenal.”

Production assistant Ben Stanton wanted to thank Winnersh neighbours for their understanding and support during the festival, adding that noise levels were well within restrictions set.

“We appreciate the cooperation of local residents, and enjoyed welcoming many of them to the festival over the weekend,” he said.

“We were happy to comply with council regulations, including regular sound checks at five perimeter points around the site.

“Our aim, which I think we achieved, was to put on a fantastic show, that residents can enjoy, as well as escape from if need be!”

His dad, Marvellous Festival director Steve Stanton, said the team was delighted to have pulled off their biggest and best Marvellous in many years.

He added: “It has been a pleasure to welcome our regulars, and many new guests too, who have helped make this such a fantastic event.

“The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive, and we hope to welcome everyone back next year for another marvellous weekend!”
