FOR the first time in two decades, Wokingham's own football team will play their home games in the town.

Plans to build a 100-seater grandstand at Emmbrook Sports and Social Club in Lowther Road, along with a new parking area for 70 cars and floodlights for matches were given the green light at the borough's planning committee on Wednesday.

Until now, the team had been playing their 'home' fixtures in Henley.

Wokingham FC, known as the Sumas, play in Hellenic Division One East.

They left the town in 1999 when their previous base was sold for housing.

Since then they have ground shared with teams across Berkshire before joining to form Wokingham and Emmbrook FC in 2004.
