A FOUR-BY-FOUR smashed through the glass front of Wokingham train station last night.

A cash machine was stolen during the 2.20am ram raid.

The station's ticket hall has been shut after the green car reversed through the glass wall on the station's east side, causing structural damage.

The suspects fled the scene in a dark vehicle, thought to be an Audi A5 or BMW.

Bracknell News:

A spokeswoman for South West Trains said: "We are assisting police with their inquiries into an incident which took place at Wokingham Station last night while the station was closed.

"Trains are continuing to serve the station as normal this morning, however due to damage caused to the station building during the incident, the booking hall is currently closed. However, we have additional customer service staff at the station to assist customers in buying tickets.

"We are assisting police with their inquiries into the incident, including providing them with CCTV footage."

Police tape surrounds the station for the second time in a week after thieves tried to steal cash from the station's ticket machines last Tuesday night.

A small quantity of cash was stolen after last week's raid where ticket machines were forcibly broken into. British Transport Police are investigating if the two incidents are linked.

The platforms are open and trains are still calling at the station. The station was closed at the time of the raid.

Wokingham train station underwent a £6 million face-lift in 2013.
