CHORISTERS from Arborfield performed on one of the world’s most famous stages at Carnegie Hall.

The eight ladies from the Arborfield Military Wives Choir were part of a 125 woman group drawn from 75 choirs across the country.

Conducted by Royal Composer Paul Mealor, who wrote the 2011 Christmas number one Wherever You Are , they flash-mobbed Times Square before performing at the renowned venue.

Isobel Bowman, choir leader of the Arborfield group, said none of their group had been to New York before.

“To stand on that stage, not just with the eight women from my choir but the others too, united there and singing your hearts out was amazing,” she said.

“It was just amazing. We also found time to enjoy ourselves, we were trying to take so much in.

“We arrived on Wednesday, May 25, and Thursday was all day rehearsals.

“We went and did a flashmob, totally unscheduled on the steps at Times Square, which again was amazing.

“Friday was the day of the performance. First we went to the 9/11 Museum which was extremely moving.”

“Saturday was free time and we just took in as many sights as we could.”

They also sang aboard USS Intrepid as part of the four-day trip.

The choir is open to wives, girlfriends and cohabiting partners of serving or former military personnel, no choral experience is required.
