RESIDENTS at a Finchampstead care home were joined by the Bracknell MP as they helped celebrate a 100th birthday.

MP Dr Phillip Lee visited the Wild Acres home in Finchampstead Road to mark Maisie Murgatroyd's birthday.

Residents, guests and staff were free to enjoy a mug of tea with some birthday cake in the lounge.

Speaking after his visit Dr Lee said: "It is encouraging not only that more people are living into their nineties and beyond, but that they are doing so whilst still living rich and fulfilling lives.

"With the baby-boom generation just starting to enter into their seventies, it is essential that, as a country, we start to plan now how we will look after increasingly large numbers of elderly people."

He also met an even older resident Grace Rudder, who will turn 103 in June.
Born before the outbreak of the First World War Grace is still reigning Scrabble champion at the home.

Janet Elliott, registered manager at the home said she shows no sign of slowing down and her mother and sister both lived will into their 90s.

The privately owned residential care home offers support to 26 over 65s and offers to care for dementia, old age, physical disability, and sensory impairment.

It also offers specialist are for Alzheimer's, hearing impairment & deafness, Parkinson's disease, speech impairment, stroke, and visual impairment.

The residential care home organises weekly activities including a very popular discussion group, singing sessions, computer club and the 'poppy club' for residents who need extra support.
