A CAROLLING event at a care home has been saved after the community rallied together to grant a care home’s Christmas dreams.

The carolling afternoon at Warren Lodge Care Home in Finchampstead was set to be cancelled after two groups pulled out with just three weeks to go until the performance.

However the community rallied behind the cause after a Facebook post and so many festive volunteers came forward that there was a waiting list.

Helen Church, took to organising the campaign, initially thinking she could get 10 children, including her daughter Amber, 10, but the campaign grew.

She said: “I saw a post asking if anyone knew of any groups that could sing carols for them but a lot of people were saying it the end of term and people have broken up.

“I asked people to get involved and now we’ve got 57 people and I’ve had to start a waiting list.

“I went to see them and they were overwhelmed by it.

“It’s been so exciting.”

The residents of the care home, along with parents of the carollers enjoyed an afternoon’s entertainment yesterday.

Janine Wakefield, a member of the life enrichment team at the 55-bed care home, said: “Sue Wilkinson and myself put a call out on Facebook but we didn’t think anyone would contact us in the first place then, when Helen got in touch they said maybe six to 10 people.

“It’s definitely made our Christmas.

“We appreciate people are busy and it’s the end of the year but to get together this many people is fantastic.

“The children are aged three to 15.

“We haven’t told the residents yet but we’ve told their families so they can join in.”
