THE family of a mother who died after being hit by a lorry in Wokingham last week have paid tribute to a 'caring' and 'fun-loving' woman.

Helen Rowe, 69 died on Thursday evening after being hit by a lorry on Station Road.

She was rushed to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with multiple life threatening injuries.

Station Road was closed as a rapid response vehicle, two ambulance officers and an ambulance were scrambled to the scene shortly after 2pm.

An air ambulance was unable to reach her due to bad weather.

A family statement says: "Helen was a caring, fun-loving, inquisitive and sociable lady that was tragically taken from us too soon.

"Since returning to the UK from Spain, Helen had established a strong network of friends and acquaintances through her voluntary work and the community groups which she regularly attended.

"Helen was the type of person that would always put the wellbeing of everyone else before her own and would go out of her way to support others in need.

"She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her wicked sense of humour and her natural ability to make anyone feel at ease."

Helen will be sorely missed by her husband Les, children and grandchildren.

Instead of flowers the family ask people make donations to the Blue Cross animal charity in Helen's name.
