WOKINGHAM Borough Council paid more than £656,000 on wages for just four employees.

The figures are part of The TaxPayers' Alliance's Town Hall Rich List, which covers 2013-2014, and names the highest paid employees at the local authorities across the country.

In Wokingham 10 employees were paid more than £100,000 with another four paid between £150,000 and £200,000.

The highest paid, Mark Moon, the director of environment, pocketed nearly £186,000 each year.

In neighbouring Bracknell Forest nine officers were paid more than £100,000 with the highest paid being chief executive Timothy Wheadon who took home £177,000.

Jonathan Isaby, Chief Executive of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: "Local authorities that are providing more for less and delivering council tax cuts clearly have talented people at the helm, but taxpayers living in poorly performing areas will be furious at the scale of some of these massive pay awards.

"After more than a decade of reckless spending and council tax hikes, local politicians now have to make necessary savings and the pay and perks for the town hall elite have to come under the spotlight.

"We all deserve to know how our money is being spent, and taxpayers should have the right to decide if they are getting value for their money from public servants."

Across all the Berkshire authorities Wokingham had the most employees on more than £150,000 whilst Slough is the only to have an employee on more than £200,000 a year.

An unnamed employee of Slough Borough Council received some £225,000.

Wokingham Borough Council have been contacted for a comment.
