A 23-year-old man has been charged with a robbery and 31 burglaries, including two in Wokingham.

Toham Hannifin, of no fixed abode, was initially arrested and charged with three burglaries in Slough, Barnet and Bramshott.

On Monday June 22 he was charged with one count of robbery in Harpenden and 28 other burglaries, 24 of them distraction burglaries.

These 28 burglaries include the two Wokingham offences which took place on September 25 as well as three further offences in Slough.

The crimes spread across the South East and date between August and October last year.

Hannifin was arrested on March 10 after a Crimewatch appeal asking for information on a spate of 35 distraction burglaries.

The victims were mainly aged in their 80s and 90s with one aged 94. In most cases the offenders entered the property after claiming they needed to investigate a burst pipe or repair a water leak.

Hannifin is due to appear before St Albans Crown Court on Wednesday July 1.
