In Bracknell Forest a total of 97 per cent of children were offered a place at one of their three preferred choices of primary schools in the borough, when the offers were announced last Thursday – the same figure as last year.

Of the 1,483 applications made to Bracknell Forest Council, 1,442 of them received one of their three named schools, while 84.5 per cent of these received their first choice. Nine per cent received their second choice, while a further 3.5 per cent were given their third choice.

Three per cent, or 41 children, were not offered one of their preferred schools, which was the same percentage as last year.

Janette Karklins, director of children, young people and learning at Bracknell Forest Council, said: “We know that it is important for parents to have a choice about where their child goes to school and so I’m pleased we’ve been able to offer 97 per cent of applicants a place at one of their chosen schools.

“This is the same percentage as last year, which is no mean feat considering the rising demand for school places in Bracknell Forest.” Wokingham saw 96 per cent of its youngsters who applied for a school place offered one of their four preferred schools – two per cent lower than 2014 – with 85 per cent of those receiving their first choice, which is one per cent lower than last year.

Only two per cent of applicants have been given schools outside of the borough, a decrease of four per cent on last year.

There was more good news for youngsters living in the Royal Borough, with 95 per cent of children – a total of 1,563 youngsters – offered one of their three choices.

More than 1,400 of those youngsters were granted their first choice – 86 per cent – a figure that has risen two per cent on last year.

Only three children in the whole borough were not allocated a place, however this was due to the applications being made for schools outside the borough.

l Parents have until Thursday, April 30, to respond to the offers that have been made.
