In total, nine primary schools and two secondary schools are expected to teach more pupils than they should hold.

In the primaries, there will be an excess of 37 pupils whilst the two secondary schools will be overburdened with 29 more pupils.

The figures were released in a draft of the school entry plan for September 2016. The document compares published admission numbers with each school’s Net Capacity Assessment (NCA).

The NCA for primaries is based on the number and size of rooms for class registration.

In secondary schools, it is based on the number and type of teaching spaces and the age range of the school.

Charlotte Haitham Taylor, executive member for children’s services at Wokingham Borough Council, said the council closely monitors school places and increases are identified in the school places plan.

She said: “At this stage, we cannot be certain about how many school place applications will be made for children to start or change schools in September,2016.

“The deadline for primary to secondary schools will be October 31, 2015, and the deadline for starting school into F2 Reception and for transferring into Year 3 in a junior school will be on January 15, 2016.” Plans to open a new secondary school at Arborfield, and to build primary schools at Strategic Development Locations will almost certainly impact the allocation plans.

There are other schools expected to operate beyond their NCA but they have either seen significant expansions since their last NCA assessment or have admissions controlled by another body, either the Secretary of State or the school governors.

Most of the schools are only in excess by one or two places although Rivermead Primary in Woodley is oversubscribed by nine places.

Bulmershe and Waingels, both in Woodley, are the under-pressure secondary schools with an extra nine and 20 pupils respectively.
