Pupils from Charters, St Mary’s, Ranelagh and LVS Ascot, who hosted the event, set about creating a two-course meal under the watchful eye of Great British Bake Off’s Martha Collison.

The Berkshire Rotary Young Chef Competition saw competitors, some as young as 13, create dishes including pies, fish and vegetarian feasts.

Martha, who reached the quarter final of the national baking competition, said: “I’m delighted to be back at an event that I took part in and won two years ago. It brings back fond memories.” The competition was judged by Berkshire’s ACS Catering’s chefs Adrian Clark and Simon Genduso.

Jack Spink, from Charters School, won the competition with salmon wrapped in parma ham with asparagus, julienne carrots, and mini roasted potatoes. His dessert was a chocolate ramekin filled with cream and strawberries.

Jack will now have the chance to cook in the Rotary Thames Valley District final to be held in February.
