The Lily Hill Park side ran in eight tries in total with captain George Milligan bagging a hat trick during his side’s best performance of the season, while the irrepresible George Owen picked up a late brace to round off a personal haul of 35 points.

The hosts started well and could have taken an early lead, but for once the prolific Owen missed two testing penalties to put his side in front.

However Rory Greenslade-Jones’ men got on the scoreboard when a slick move through the three quarters was rounded off by flanker Milligan, and Owen converted to put his side 7-0 to the good.

Bournemouth fought back bravely, though, and went the length of the field to level matters after Bracknell firstly knocked on in their opponents 22, and were then penalised at the resultant scrum.

The Lions broke out and scored courtesy of a Jamie Graesser try in the corner and Lewis Dennett’s excellent conversion.

And things got even better for the visitors as, with Bracknell down to 14 men, they took a seven-point lead through Alex Sutherland’s converted score following a period of concerted pressure from the visitors.

But Bournemouth lost their numerical advantage when Sam Hardcastle was sinbinned for his side’s persistent infringing, and they were down to 13 men a minute later when Wyn Roberts was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knock on as his side defended inside their 22.

Owen kicked the resultant penalty to cut the gap to four points, and the Lily Hill men went in front when Ian Burch went over in the corner immediately after the restart.

A further Owen penalty put the hosts up 20-14 at the break, and they extended the lead nine minutes into the second half when debutant scrum half Barry Dwyer scooted home from the Bournemouth 10 metre line to cross the whitewash after an exchange of kicks between the two teams.

Dennett and Owen then slotted a penalty apiece to leave Bracknell 30-17 in front, before the hosts burst into life to score five tries in little more than 20 minutes.

Firstly, after Dennett had conceded a scrum by placing his restart out on the full, Milligan secured the try bonus point for his side after Bracknell attacked down the left hand side.

And the back rower then collected his hat trick on the hour after throwing a sublime dummy to burst out of a tight situation and across the try line.

As the previously resolute Bournemouth defence started to wilt, a stunning length of the field gallop by wing Burch took Bracknell past their half century in the 67th minute.

A fine score of their own by Bournemouth’s Tony Dunkerly brought the Lions within touching distance of a try bonus point with just under 10 minutes remaining, but the hosts continued to have their fans cheering as Owen continued his phenomenal season by touching down twice in the final five minutes.

With the wing knocking over the extras on both occasions, Bracknell’s comprehensive win was complete.

The crushing victory lifts the team above Old Centralians and in to sixth place in the table, ahead of a potentially demanding trip to Devon to face high-flying Brixham - who sit third - this coming Saturday (2.30pm).
