Bracknell Forest councillor Michael Gbadebo said he believed building work on the shop, opposite Jennett’s Park Community Centre, would start soon and could be completed as early as December.

The store, when it opens, will be a Morrisons Local store. Above the shop there will be flats.

Residents have been calling for a shop ever since the first homeowners moved on to the estate five years ago.

More than 1,000 homes have already been built and there will eventually be a total of 1,500.

Jennett’s Park Consor-tium – which consists of Persimmon Homes and Redrow Homes – has been criticised for failing to deliver a shop until now.

Cllr Gbadebo, whose Great Hollands ward includes Jennett’s Park, said: “Residents were promised a shop and should not have had to wait this long or go through this much pain to get it.

“I had a meeting with council officers a few months ago about a lot of things on Jennett’s Park, how we as a council must do better and what lessons we can learn to ensure that developers do deliver on their obligations with all future developments.” Lilla Dukat, a Jennett’s Park resident for two and a half years, said: “I think it is amazing that we are finally getting a shop in Jennett’s Park.

“It is going to be very good, especially for people who do not drive.

“It has been coming for a long time as I know it has been planned for about five years now.” Fellow resident Ash Rowley added: “Jennett’s Park has been in need of a local shop; it’s been overdue seeing as I’ve been in the area for about four years and there has been a big increase of new homes built in the area.” In a statement, Morr-isons said: “We’re looking forward to opening a Morrisons Local in Bracknell and proud to be creating 20 new jobs for local people.

“Our store will focus on selling fresh food, including meat, fish and bakery items which we’re sure will be welcomed by residents of Jennett’s Park.” It has been the second cause for celebration in a matter of weeks for the estate’s residents, after a large playpark was opened in Falcon Way on October 1, following lengthy delays.
